The Council of Wizardry nearly done.

Still need to paint the faces better. Saruman's nearly done. Four to go. I think I'll skip Gandalf's since he got a big hat that covers most of his features.

To be something done by me there's an unusual large amount of colours. I think it balanced out nice enough. In fact, it looks nearly exactly as I planned which is something to be happy for in itself.

The shattered shield was the thing I was most sceptic whether to keep or not, but in the end it stayed. As did the little grains of sand that I couldn't be bothered to remove. They can only really be seen in photos so it's okay...

Grim Hammerers phase one just completed:

Resin bases for some of the models. Two fillers - a broken pillar and an anvil - and two converted old dwarf models. I will put some flairful detail on the trays to lively it up - the paintscheme on the trays will be dark stone to contrast the armour and the sort of bright colour-scheme I planned on them in order to make them fit in with my Dwarf Holds-army for War of the Ring.

I think I'll go prime them now. And here's hoping that I sealed the polystyrene pillars enough so they won't melt...

  1. The wizards look really good -- you have definitely stepped up your game! If you just work a bit more on the faces this is beyond wargaming quality in my opinion.

The grim hammers are shaping up nicely. I really think that those GW prices might backfire on them.. I know you would have easily bought at least three packs of both the grim hammers and the men of dale if the price would have been more realistic. I can't believe that only relying on first time buyers will make GW enough money from this license.

    1. All that you said above was true. Especially about the Men of Dale. All of the quasi-GW-staff I have spoken with claims it is the royalties - or whatever it is called - that they pay for the license that make the prices so fantastically high.

Do you recognize the priest by the way? I shaved off some parts and added very little - some hair, in fact - and presto: Thunder-Fokker himself, Alatar or Pallando, can't remember which one is one...

  2. I like the diorama on the movement tray, the book and shattered shield look great. The older Radagast is just so different from the new,and I can see why you chose the older one: the new one would look a little silly with all the other serious wizards.

    1. Radagast in his two forms are very much different. The newer has so much movement. Though the older one lent itself better for a slightly more serious but still dynamic look (in a way) with the birds and nature and stuff.

I think you're right with the "serious wizards" - they look very much more Istari stern than the new Radagast.

The Blue wizards are Perry Brothers' Christian Priest (provided by mr Flowerofbattle) and a servant from "Arab King on Camel" respectively. They fit the bill, I think.

    1. Thanks, just the final little bits of painting left!

I was wondering a little about the latest kit presented on your part of the web, but I might take it later, it is seriously time to go to bed now :)
